Ethan Hoerschgen, MD
A native of Springfield, Dr. Ethan Hoerschgen has been providing exceptional care to his patients since 2010. He attended medical school at Saint Louis University School of Medicine. He completed an internal medicine residency followed by fellowship training at Barnes - Jewish Hospital with Washington University.
Dr. Hoerschgen is highly regarded in his profession. He is Board Certified in Internal Medicine as well as in Nephrology. He shares his knowledge with other professionals, lecturing as a guest to Missouri State University's Physician's Assistant students.
To stay abreast of the latest advancements in nephrology, Dr. Hoerschgen maintains memberships in the American Society of Nephrology, Renal Physician Association and the National Kidney Foundation.
In his free time, Dr. Hoerschgen enjoys volunteering with the Heart of the Ozarks Sertoma Club and playing golf.
Susan Woody, DO
Since 2002, Dr. Susan Woody has been offering exceptional nephrological care. She attended medical school at the University of Health Sciences/College of Osteopathic Medicine (UHS-COM) in Kansas City, Missouri. She completed her residency with the University of Missouri - Kansas City and her fellowship training with the University of Kansas.
Dr. Woody is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in Nephrology. She stays up-to-date with her field by holding memberships in the American Society of Nephrology, Renal Physician Association and the Greene County Medical Society.
In 2009, 2010 and 2011, Dr. Woody was recognized as a runner-up for Top Doctor in Nephrology by 417 Magazine.
When not at the office, Dr. Woody has a passion for animal rescue, and she has volunteered with the Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in Utah. She also enjoys fitness, fishing and spending time with her family: her husband Greg Dodson, an image consultant, and her step-son.
David Sommerfeld, MD
Dr. David Sommerfeld has been in practice since 1992. Highly educated, he obtained his Bachelor of Science degree from Kansas State University and earned his medical degree from the University of Kansas. He completed his internal medicine residency and his nephrology fellowship with the University of Iowa.
Board certified, Dr. Sommerfeld maintains memberships in many professional organizations. He is currently a member of the American Society of Nephrology and the Renal Physician Association.
In 2009, Dr. Sommerfield was recognized as a runner up for Top Doctor in Nephrology by 417 Magazine. He was recognized as a Top Doctor in 2010 and 2011.
Dr. Sommerfeld gives back to his local community by volunteering with The Kitchen Clinic, which provides health services to underprivileged families. He also participates in Kiliclimb, a fundraiser to bring clean drinking water to African villages.
In his spare time, he enjoys watching college football and basketball.
Giselle D. Kohler, MD
Dr. Giselle Kohler joined Springfield Nephrology Associates in 2015. She received a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Pennsylvania and her medical degree from the University of Maryland. She completed her internal medicine training at the University of Texas Southwestern and Parkland Hospital in Dallas. Dr. Kohler then finished her nephrology fellowship at Washington University in St Louis and Barnes Jewish Hospital.
Board certified in internal medicine and nephrology, Dr. Kohler is a member of the American Medical Association, American Society of Nephrology and the National Kidney Foundation. She has presented at the American Society of Nephrology annual meeting and been published in medical journals, including Kidney International and American Journal of Kidney Disease.
Throughout her training, Dr. Kohler developed an interest in complex ethical questions that arise during the care of patients and with advances in modern medicine. She completed a certificate of advance study in bioethics and health policy through Loyola University in Chicago. She was an active member of the ethics consultation team at Washington University St Louis during her nephrology fellowship.
She is passionate about the study of kidney disease and takes pride in caring for patients and working with their families throughout the patient's entire course of kidney disease.
Dr. Kohler resides in Springfield with her family. She enjoys hiking with her dog, traveling with her family, and volunteering with a variety of community organizations in the Ozarks.
Kristie Jones, MD
Dr. Kristie E. Jones grew up in east Texas. She received her undergraduate degree from the University of Texas at Tyler with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing before continuing her education and obtaining her Doctor of Medicine degree from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. Dr. Jones continued her education at TTUHSC, completing an internal medicine residency. She then moved to Kansas City, Kansas, where she trained in an excellent nephrology fellowship program at the University of Kansas Medical Center. Dr. Jones is a diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine Nephrology.
During her undergraduate studies, she received many honors, including being inducted into Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing. During her internal medicine residency training, Dr. Jones received outstanding resident of the year for her intern and third year. She served as co-chief resident in her third year of residency. During fellowship training, she focused on polycystic kidney disease and transplant nephrology.
Dr. Jones' clinical interests are treating patients with chronic kidney disease, electrolyte disorders, high blood pressure, and the relationship between diabetes and chronic kidney disease development. She serves as medical director of dialysis facilities treating end-stage renal disease patients.
Dr. Jones and her husband, David, love the great outdoors. They are both avid mountain bikers and enjoy getting into the wilderness to hunt, particularly with archery. Away from work, Dr. Jones also enjoys gardening and strives to be a master gardener, artwork with pen and pencil, and spending devotional time with her church.
Stephen Garcia, MD (Retired)
For 20 years, Dr. Stephen Garcia has given outstanding care to his loyal patients. Well trained, he earned his medical degree from the University of Missouri - Columbia. He completed his internal medicine residency at the Medical College of Virginia and his fellowship in nephrology at Indiana University.
Board certified in nephrology, Dr. Garcia is a member of the American College of Physicians, American Society of Nephrology and the National Kidney Foundation. In 2010, Dr. Garcia was recognized as a Top Doctor in Nephrology by 417 Magazine.
Dr. Garcia participates in the Global Brigades, which are medical mission trips. He is married with three children, and he enjoys fly fishing, cycling and running in his spare time.

Michelle Homesley, APRN, BC
Michelle Homesley has been practicing since 2009. She earned both her Bachelor of Science in Nursing and her Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Missouri - Kansas City.
Michelle is board certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center, and she holds her Missouri State Nursing License. She is also a member of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners.
When not at the office, Michelle likes to travel, read, shop and play with her dogs!
Lisa Coombs, APRN, BC
Lisa Coombs joined Springfield Nephrology Associates in July 2019. She was born and raised in Springfield, Missouri and graduated with her Associates of Science in Nursing degree from Southwest Baptist University in 2007 and graduated with her Bachelor's of Science in Nursing from Southwest Missouri State University in 2015. She then obtained her Master's of Science in Nursing from Cox College in May 2019.
She is board certified by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) and a member of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners and Advanced Practice Nurses of the Ozarks.
When she is not working, she enjoys spending time with her husband, son and their dog Sadie. They love the water and enjoying camping, boating and riding jet skis with their family and friends. They also enjoy riding four wheeler's and side-by-sides at the sand dunes in Waynoka, Oklahoma.
Megan Miller, APRN, BC
Megan Miller joined Springfield Nephrology Associates in July 2015. She graduated from Maryville University in 2019 with a Master's degree in Adult-Gerontology Nurse Practitioner.
Jordan Buckley, DNP, BC
Jordan Buckley joined Springfield Nephrology Associates in June 2018. She graduated from Missouri State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing in 2009, where she was awarded Cum Laude. She graduated with her Doctorate of Nurse Practitioner degree in 2018 at Missouri State University.
Jordan was the recipient of the Missouri State Board of Governors Scholarship award as well as the Missouri State Leadership Scholarship.
Leslie Yearta-Brown, APRN, BC
Leslie Yearta-Brown completed her FNP education in 2012 through UMKC. She worked in primary care and cardiology prior to joining Springfield Nephrology in 2022.
Leslie is board certified through the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners and is a member of the Advanced Practice Nurses.
Kathryn Jenkins, APRN, BC
Kathryn Jenkins joined Springfield Nephrology Associates in September 2019. She graduated with her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from the University of Missouri-Columbia Sinclair School of Nursing in 2006. She completed her Family Nurse Practitioner degree at Cox College in 2015.
Kathryn is also a member of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners and American Association of Critical Care Nurses.
Cynthia Shaughnessy, APRN, BC
Cynthia Shaughnessy joined Springfield Nephrology Associates in October 2019. She graduated with her Bachelors of Science degree in Nursing in 2014 and completed her Masters of Science degree in Nursing, Management and Leadership at Walden University in 2016, where she was a member of the Golden Key International Honor Society and a member of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society. She completed her Masters degree in Adult Gerontology Nurse Practitioner in 2019 at Maryville University.
Cynthia has twelve years of experience as a practicing Registered Nurse in telemetry medical/surgical, long-term care and nephrology specialty. She has seven years of experience in clinical management, staff development and leadership. She is also a member of Advanced Practice Nurses of the Ozarks and American Academy of Nurse Practitioners.
Jill Cotner, NP-C
Jill Cotner joined Springfield Nephrology Associates in February 2023. She graduated with her Associates of Science in Nursing in 1999. She graduated with her Bachelors of Science degree in Nursing in 2012. Jill completed her Masters of Science and Nursing in at Maryville University in 2016.
Prior to Nephrology, Jill has many years experience in Gastroenterology and Interventional Radiology. Jill has over 16 years experience in leadership responsibility as a charge nurse in the ICU. Jill is a member of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners.
